Woodborough Village

Woodborough is a beautiful conversation village in North Nottinghamshire which is conveniently located to serve nearby villages, Arnold, Mapperley and beyond.

Woodborough Village is a thriving rural community with deep historical roots and a vibrant present. With a population of just under 2,000, the village offers a peaceful, family-friendly atmosphere surrounded by rolling countryside, ancient woodlands, and walking trails that invite exploration in every season.

Woodborough’s history stretches back to the Domesday Book, where it was recorded as Udeburg — meaning “fortress in the woods.” The village has seen Bronze Age settlements, Roman activity, and Anglo-Saxon development, all leaving their mark on the landscape. Today, you’ll still find charming framework-knitters’ cottages, a nod to the village’s 19th-century textile heritage, alongside modern homes and community spaces.

At the heart of the village stands St Swithun’s Church, a Grade I listed building dating back to the 13th century, with a 14th-century chancel and beautiful stained glass. The church remains a focal point for village life, hosting services, concerts, and seasonal events.

Woodborough is proud of its strong community spirit, with active groups including the Woodborough Community Association, Local History Club, and various sports teams. The Village Hall  Lingwood Lane not only serves as our home but also as a hub for events, classes, and celebrations, while local pubs like the Four Bells Inn & Nags Head offer a warm welcome to residents and visitors alike.

In addition to our preschool. families are well served by our neighbouring school, Woodborough Woods Foundation CofE Primary School, who we work closely with and the village benefits from regular bus links to Nottingham and nearby towns. Whether you’re here to raise a family, enjoy retirement, or simply soak up the countryside charm, Woodborough offers a unique blend of heritage, hospitality, and heart.
